Born on May 12, 1980, in Southampton, Hampshire, England, Sunak was raised in a family of Indian descent who immigrated to Britain from East Africa in the 1960s.
Sunak attended Winchester College and later studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University in California as a Fulbright Scholar. Before entering politics, Sunak worked for Goldman Sachs and later as a partner at two hedge fund firms.
Sunak’s political journey began when he was elected to the House of Commons at the 2015 general election, representing Richmond (Yorks). He supported the successful campaign for Brexit in the 2016 European Union membership referendum.
