Bollywood Actress Sridevi Passes Away

In a major jolt to Bollywood industry, 54 years old actress Sridevi died of cardiac arrest in Dubai. She was in Dubai along with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter to attend family wedding. Her sudden death shocked Bollywood and legions of her followers.

She is popularly considered as first female star of India. Her real name is Amma Yanger Ayyapan. Actress has worked in more than 125 movies ranging from Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi movies. She was last scene in movie MOM.

Actress made her Bollywood début as child artist in July 1975. Her first adult role was at the age of 13 in Tamil movie Moondru Mudichu (1976). Her Bollywood début movie was Solva Sawan in 1978 but she gained commercial success with Jitender starred movie Himmatwala. In Bollywood, she gave Sadma, Himmatwala, Chandini, Mr India, Mawali, Nagina, Gumra and Tohfa like blockbusters. After working in Judaai she stopped to work in movies. Then in 2012, she again stepped in after 15 years and worked in movie English Vinglish. Actress was most successful with on-screen Anil Kapoor and most of her films were directed by husband Boney Kapoor.

Her career expanded for more than four decades. She was one of the biggest female stars India ever had. She was awarded Padma Shri, fourth highest civilian honour in 2013. Sridevi is survived by Boney Kapoor and two daughters Jhanvi and Khushi . Sridevi was also stepmother to actor Arjun Kapoor and his sister Anushula who Boney had from first wife Mona. She was Boney Kapoor’s second wife.

Her elder daughter Janvi is making Bollywood début this year.The movie name is Dhadak and movie is directed by Karan Johar.

Condolences started pouring in early morning on social media platforms as the news of the actor’s death spread. Big names from India including President have passes condolences to the departed soul. Her body will arrive at Mumbai on Monday.
