Any Indian traveler can carry up to $3000 (approximately ?2.5 lakh) in cash foreign currency. If you wish to carry more cash than this, you must obtain permission from the RBI (Reserve Bank of India). Up to ?25,000 in Indian Rupees can be taken abroad.


You can bring cash foreign currency up to $5000 (approximately ?4.2 lakhs). If you have more than $10,000 (?8.3 lakhs) in cash and travelers’ checks, you must declare it to the customs department.


If you travel with more cash than the stipulated limit, the customs department, income tax department, and security agencies at the airport may question you.
