Captain Yashika Hatwal Tyagi is a trailblazing Indian Army officer who made history by becoming the first female officer to be posted in high-altitude areas, specifically in Leh and Kargil. She’s a Kargil War veteran, having served during the conflict in 1999 while pregnant with her second child.
Yashika’s father was an Army officer who passed away when she was just 7 years old. This loss inspired her to join the Army later in life.
She joined the Indian Army in 1994 after clearing the Services Selection Board exam and graduated from the Officers Training Academy with a silver medal. Yashika served in intense counter-insurgency areas of Assam and was part of “Operation Rhino”.
During the Kargil war, Yashika was in her second trimester of pregnancy and kept her 3-year-old son with her throughout the conflict. She played a crucial role in coordinating logistics, ensuring the Army had sufficient ammunition.
Also, Yashika received the Kargil Star and OP Vijay Medal for her service.
After retirement, she has also served as Director of ECHS Polyclinic & Principal of Asha School for differently able children.
She left the Army as a Captain and now works as a motivational speaker, storyteller, and Warrior Mindset Coach.
Yashika has given talks at Josh Talks and Ted Talks, and has worked with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. She specializes in training CEOs for corporate challenges, drawing from her experience in the war zone.
